Please note that you may need a different trunk liner and/or a different CD changer install kit for your car, depending on how your car is configured. My car is a 2001 E46 325i 4-Door Sedan without folding rear seats. If your car is different you will need to check Circle BMW's website to find the appropriate parts for your car: http.//www.circlebmw.com/parts/access/cd01.htm
The instructions that come with the BMW CD Changer Install Kit are very detailed and well written. You should follow the instructions that come with the kit and only use this page for visual reference when needed.
1. Make sure you have everything that you need.
2. Organize the clips, bolts, and screws. |
3. Locate the left side of the bracket and slide a clip into place. |
4. Slide 5 more clips onto the same piece. |
5. Slide 6 clips onto the right side piece. |
6. Bolt the left piece of the bracket to the top piece of the bracket with the black bolts provided in the kit. |
7. Bolt the right piece to the top piece with the black bolts provided in the kit. |
8. The bracket is now complete. |
9. Remove the trunk carpet. |
10. Remove the trunk floor board. |
11. Remove the storage tray on the left hand side of the trunk by popping out the two plastic pins that hold it in place. You may need to use a trim panel tool for this. Don't worry if you damage the tray, you will not reuse it. Save the pins. |
12. Remove the two pins holding the stock trunk liner in place and also remove the two pins holding the stock trunk liner to the rear seat liner. The trunk liner pins come out if you pull the middle straight out. The two pins connecting the trunk liner to the rear seat liner are screwed in, you will need to hold the back piece and unscrew the front piece. |
13. Remove the large plastic pin in the middle of the rear seat liner. Just pull it straight out. |
14. Remove the stock trunk liner from the vehicle. Notice the three main wiring harnesses. One is for the amplifier, one is for the CD Changer, and the other is for the NAV system. |
15. Locate the amplifier. Unplug the wiring harness connected to the amplifier. There is a lever that is held in place by a tab. Press the tab in and pull the lever down, this will force the plug out. |
16. Unbolt the amplified and remove it from the vehicle. |
17. Remove the amplifier from the stock bracket. |
18. Bolt the amplifier to the new trunk bracket. |
19. Slide the remaining clips into place where the new trunk bracket will bolt into the trunk. Be careful with the clip at the top right corner. This clip slides partially into a hole and then slides up into place. Do not drop it into the hole otherwise you will never see it again and it may rattle around when you're driving. |
20. Unwrap the insulation from the factory CD Changer wiring. Save the insulation. Put the bracket into place, making sure not to pinch any of the wiring. Reroute the amplifier wiring harness so that you can plug it in easily. Plug the amplifier back in, making sure the lever clips back into place. Run the CD Changer wiring harness through the middle of the bracket. Tuck the NAV system wiring harness out of the way under the right piece of the new bracket. |
21. Bolt the new bracket to the floor with 4 bolts. |
22. Bolt the new bracket to the wall |
23. Screw the CD changer brackets to the MP3 changer. |
24. Bolt the MP3 changer into the new bracket. |
25. Bolt the plastic tray in place underneath the MP3 changer. |
26. Hook up the wiring. The MP3 changer is plugged into the Ai-Net to M-Bus cable which is then plugged into the Soundgate adapter. The Soundgate adapter is then plugged into the BMW CD Changer wiring harness. Also, make sure you slide the selector switch on the MP3 Changer from Ai-Net to M-Bus. |
27. Using zip ties, neatly tuck the cables and the Soundgate adapter away. You can place them under the tray as that space will not be used for anything. You can also wrap the whole thing with the insulation you saved in step 20 and zip it all together. Then place the new trunk tray in place and secure it with the two pins you removed in step 11. Make sure you have everything zip tied in such a way that nothing will rattle. Also make sure that the connectors in the wiring have enough play so that they will not become unplugged from overstress. |
28. You're almost done! Locate your new trunk liner. |
29. Place it into the trunk at an angle so that you can connect it to the rear seat liner. |
30. Place the top of the pin through the hole. |
31. Then secure it by screwing on the back. |
32. Do the same for the other pin. |
33. Place the entire assembly into place. |
34. Be careful in the area around the new tray you installed. The tray itself has a groove where the trunk liner should fit. Make sure you tuck the bottom of the trunk liner into this groove. |
35. Secure the new trunk liner with two pins. Put the large pin back into the middle of the rear seat liner. Put the floorboard back in. |
36. Put the trunk mat back in. |
37. You're done!
